Abigail Wood, second place winner 2021
Abbie is a senior at Eastern York High School. She has studied organ for six years, previously with Victor Fields, Brian Rotz of Dickinson College, and currently with Dr. Shelly Moorman-Stahlman of Lebanon Valley College. She has won multiple scholarships from the American Guild of Organists for music study opportunities in Philadelphia and Cape Cod, and in past summers has studied with Oberlin Conservatory faculty Dr. Jonathan Moyer and Dr. Krista Rakitch. Abbie holds a part time organist position at Concordia Lutheran church in Columbia and serves as a guest organist at Christ Lutheran church in Harrisburg.
Beyond organ, Abbie enjoys composing her own music and is a multiple award winner in the annual York Symphony Orchestra’s young composer competition. She has also studied with Oberlin Conservatory’s composition faculty. The YSO recently incorporated her “A Day in Italy” composition into their Stage the Page elementary school outreach program. Abbie is also a violinist in the York Youth Symphony Orchestra, and the PMEA District, Regional, and State Orchestras. She also enjoys participating in York County Honors band and PMEA District and Regional Bands as a clarinetist. Vocally, Abbie sings in her school’s many vocal ensembles as well as PMEA’s District and Regional Choruses.
